If you’re looking for a job and have put it on hold because it’s December and the holidays are here, think again. Though you might be tempted to take a break from the job search, there are plenty of jobs to fill this time of year. According to an article in Forbes, there are some really good reasons to job hunt in December. Click here to read Forbes article.
Though many job seekers believe December is not a good time to search for a job, human resource professionals beg to differ. “It’s true that everyone is busy with holiday events, parties, and festivities in December,” said Christine Gedim, Client Services Manager at Our Daily Bread Employment Center in Baltimore. “But we are also interviewing prospective employees and trying to fill positions. December can be a very good month for applicants. It’s an opportunity for someone who meets the requirements of the job to stand out because the competition is taking December off,” Gedim said. In fact, seven individuals recently graduated from the Center’s Work 4 Success Job Readiness Class and are now ready for job placements throughout the Baltimore area, Gedim told us.
Here are a few tips for job seekers to keep in mind:
- It’s the end of the year and managers are getting approvals for their 2019 budgets which means they are looking for people like you.
- Holiday networking abounds. Baltimore and surrounding counties have calendars online with loads of fundraisers, open houses and other opportunities where you can connect and network.
- Seasonal jobs can lead to full-time employment.
- There’s less competition. Many job seekers take time off during the holidays and that will give you the advantage during your search.
Don’t give up just because it’s the holidays. Now is the perfect time to contact your recruiter!
